Hollywood Ballet is Hollywood's own chamber dance company- contemporary ballet and modern jazz dance for the 21st Century. Hollywood Ballet dancers and dance are available for theatrical, opera, showcase and special event performance, choreography, workshops and residencies in the greater Los Angeles area from Orange County to Beverly Hills, Pasadena to Malibu and Santa Barbara, and from San Francisco to New York, London, Paris and beyond. Choreographer Rick Heiman is currently creating a new dance work for Hollywood Ballet and Hollywood Dance Company dancers, set to music from Mozart's Requiem and called Requiem 21. Sections of this new dance were premiered in January 2008 and the plan is for eventual demi-soir performances of Requiem 21 with a full chorale and orchestra. Much more than a trendy aerobics or cardio class with a barre, this is a workout that incorporates rhythm, breath, and musicality, as well as elements drawn from yoga and Pilates, into a contemporary ballet based dance workout class, without dangerously repetitive bouncing movements. Hollywood Ballet dancers and guests performed in Tujunga Cabaret- Studio City Dances! April 4th-6th at the Two Roads Theater in Studio City. Former New York City Ballet dancer Carrie Lee Riggins performed a solo choreographed by Rick Heiman, Cut from Stone, in the DanceSpot showcase at Studio A Dance in Silverlake, Los Angeles on March 29th. Hollywood Ballet at the Hollywood Bowl: Hollywood Ballet dancers and friends performed in the Hollywood Bowl Easter Sunrise Service on Sunday March 23rd in choreography by Rick Heiman to music created for the Compassion Rising project, involving the Dalai Lama and other world spiritual leaders, composed and formed by world renowned cellist Michael Fitzpatrick. Hollywood Ballet performed 8 full evening shows at the Unknown Theater in Hollywood in January, 2008, including the world premiere of RQ 21, Rick Heiman's choreography to Mozart's Requiem. |
